Throwbacks: The Court Yard Hounds

image

Hey, remember that time those two girls from the Dixie Chicks semi-randomly started their own band?
And they called it the Courtyard Hounds?
And then they put out an album?

Well, I just came across a track on it and remembered how much I loved it.

Here it is, in all it’s alt-country/folky goodness.

Magic stuff from Emily Erwin and Marty Maguire.

Bonnie Raitt | Slipstream Album Review

image

Bonnie Raitt.
Slipstream.
GET THIS ALBUM.

Some are calling this her best record in years.  Possibly her best ever.  And that ain’t a lie.   This is a sold piece of work.

Slipstream’s got a certain Nostalgia that’s hard to pull off.  It’s bluesy, and funky and retro, but somehow current.  In an effort that could have come across as dated, Raitt dodges that bullet and makes it work.  Beautifully, I might add.

Vocally, she’s got this stirring authenticity in her voice.  It’s mature but not weathered, and in a way, fresh.  It’s really unmistakable, and undoubtedly the thing that has kept her fans coming back, year after year.
(Not bad for 63 years old)

Musically, this things got some really nice diversity.  While it is, certainly, a blues album, she’s not afraid to step outside of the box,  pulling in some  interesting beats and instrument combinations.  It makes for some really cool effects, specifically in the debut track, “Right Down the Line.”  Which is killer.

And really, the whole thing really is killer.
There’s a lot that should be said, but I’ll just leave it at this:
Strong tracks, strong vocals, strong lyrics, strong everything.

You’ve just gotta hear it for yourself.
Kick back, crank up the volume, and step into the Slipstream, Y’all.

Standout tracks include:
Right Down the Line, Not Cause I wanted To, You Can’t Fail Me Now, and Marriage Made in Hollywood.

COUNTDOWN TO TOUCHDOWN

Goldenheart | Dawn Richard

Dawn Richard, former member of Danity Kane and Diddy Dirty Money, is back with a new record. Goldenheart is a ‘futuristic, frequently danceable R&B album’.

The record is amazing but I’m still waiting for a Danity Kane reunion.

2 smokin’ new country EP’s that you should own.

2 of the hottest new ladies in Nashville released EP’s yesterday.  CMT is calling Rose Falcon and Sarah darlingwoman to watch’ in country music.
We agree.

Only, we’re calling the ‘woman to listen’ because they sound awzomeeeee.

Azealia Banks Announces New Music

Azealia Banks announced earlier today that she will be releasing, YUNG RAPUNXEL, the first single from Broke With Expensive Taste on February 12. Looks like her feud with Angel Haze didn’t get her dropped from Interscope.
